GENERAL DESCRIPTIONThe Data Information Services Division (DIS) is seeking a Data Analyst VI to support the rapidly growing analytical and data research needs of the Data Analytics section. The Data Analytics team provides critical analytical support on complex legal matters across the agency, including Antitrust, Consumer Protection, Medicaid Fraud, Transportation, Public Finance, and Special Litigation.This position plays a central role in supporting both Civil and Criminal Medicaid Fraud investigations. One function of this role will require planning, designing, and executing large scale data extractions from the Health and Human Services Commissionand#8217;s (HHSC) Business Objects environment commonly referred to by users as and#8220;Boxi.and#8221; In addition to the BusinessObjects system, the Data Analyst VI will leverage other HHSC-administered databases to obtain high-volume data quickly, accurately, and securely. The position is considered a technical expert in this area.The ideal candidate will be highly skilled in developing and optimizing queries that pull information efficiently and effectively from multiple complex data sources. This role will serve as a subject-matter expert on the collection, extraction, and interpretation of data from other agencies and external partners. The analyst will work closely with attorneys, investigators, and other stakeholders to ensure the timely delivery of data to support sensitive and high-impact legal cases.The OAG is a dynamic state agency with over 4,000 employees throughout the State of Texas. Coordinates, develops and streamlines queries to be used in HHSCand#8217;S Business Object system as well as underlying data tables, or comparable complex medical billing systems.
Coordinates with other Data Analytics team members to create systems and tools to manage databases, as well as improve querying and reporting.
Gathers, organizes, analyzes, and prepares materials and data in answer to analysis requests.
Meets with agency staff and local, state and federal officials as well as representatives of private entities to gather information as needed.
Ensures discretion with case data including developing and implementing security procedures for handling, protecting, and distributing confidential data.
Shares knowledge on data models, data mining, and segmentation techniques.
Serves as a technical expert in Medicaid database management. Consults with Analysts and legal staff on billing practices, methods and relevant fields including NPI codes, Procedure Codes, and Program Type Codes.
Performs related work as assigned.
Maintains relevant knowledge necessary to perform essential job functions.

Ensures security and confidentiality of sensitive and/or protected information.

Qualifications: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSEducation: Graduation from high school or equivalent.
Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. Experience in the following field (or closely related) may be substituted on a year for year basis: data science, business analytics, computer science, computer information systems, management information systems, accounting, finance, mathematics, statistics, economics.
Experience: 10 years of full-time experience working in the following (or closely related) fields: data science, business analytics, computer science, computer information systems, management information systems, accounting, finance, mathematics, statistics, economics, compilation, and/or reporting work.
Experience: 5 years of full-time experience working with HHSCand#8217;S Business Object system and its underlying data tables, or comparable complex medical billing systems.
Knowledge of statistics and analyzing data sets; running queries, report writing, and presenting findings; and record keeping, including security procedures for handling, protecting, and distributing confidential data.
Skill in the use of a computer and applicable software, in conducting data searches, in evaluating and translating large amounts of data.
Skill in handling multiple tasks, prioritizing, and meeting deadlines.
Skill in effective oral and written communication.
Skill in exercising sound judgment and effective decision making.

Ability to work more than 40 hours as needed and in compliance with the FLSA.

Ability to travel (including overnight travel) up to 5%PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSEducation: Masterand#8217;s degree from an accredited college or university; with major coursework in data science, business analytics, computer science, computer information systems, management information systems, accounting, finance, mathematics, statistics, economics or a related field is generally preferred.
Experience: 15 years of full-time experience working in the following (or closely related) fields: Experience in database management, data analysis, research, data compilation, and/or reporting work.
